random good thing

You know how every once in awhile something really good & unexpected happens....something kind of random that you might not necessarily wish to happen but when it does, you're grateful?

I just renewed my drivers license online!

I didn't have to wait in line. I didn't have to wrestle Katie while I waited in line. I didn't have to worry about some of the people I was waiting in line with...I live in South Carolina...I can encounter some pretty backwoods type people on a daily basis!

I didn't even know my license was expired until Friday when I went to cash a check at the bank. The conversation went a little like this:

Teller: (through the intercom) Jacinda, do you have a valid i.d.?

Me: I sent you my driver's license.

Teller: (a little exasperated) Yes, but it's expired.

Me: (genuinely surprised) It is?!?! Oh...um...(looking through my wallet wondering what else in the world I had that would prove who I am)

Teller: Yes, it is.

Me: Oh....gosh....um.....(still fumbling through my wallet even though I knew I didn't have another picture i.d.)

Teller: (quite sarcastically in my opinion) Well, I'll go ahead and cash it this time but after this you'll have to have a valid i.d.

I mean, come on. I understand it's the law and that's fine, but am I any less who I am just because my license expired? The teller truly was kind of mean about it. But, I suppose it's a good thing she told me because I sure had no clue it had expired on my birthday!

I totally didn't know you could do that online -- I haven't had to get a new one since Kevin and I got married. It was such a beating to go alone to the DMV, much less with a three year old and one year old in tow!
Thanks for the tip.

I found that out when we moved into our house in Sachse. Actually my husband did it for me and I was so thankful that I did not have to wait in line. He is the techno savy one. We just did it again when we moved here. It is one of the wonderful things in life when you have children. Now if I could just get a drive thru post office. Maybe someday...

I was so excited when I found this out a few weeks ago! It is so convenient and easy! James and I have both taken advantage of this since moving to Abilene. We're big fans.

I'm guessing that you can't get one for a new state online? That would be just too wonderful. This is one chore that I have been putting off as long as possible since we moved states. I am waiting until I am absolutely forced to make the trip to the DMV (speaking of backwoods folks....ever been to the Louisiana DMV?) or at least until both kids are in Mother's Day Out.

Glad you got it taken care of...it can be a pain to go to the DMV. It is almost like they are trained to take a long time and make things much more difficult than they have to be.

I do hope I can renew online the next time mine expires--that would save a bunch of time--I am kind of surprised that the state of SC didn't send you a notice--how would you know it expired except you had a really observant bank teller???

I got til 2008 before I battle SC again. IF I can renew online and not take an eye test...I'm so in!!! If we're still in Georgia, I will drive back for it, that's for sure!
